Boomtown & Candidate

Boomtown & Candidate is a pair of tunes that finds Dave slipping away from his happy-go-lucky songsmith role as he responds to the state of his nation at the time.

The song “Boomtown” was co-written with the great songwriter and performer Drew Nelson in the living room of their good pal Oscar’s house. The lyrics address the responsibility each generation holds in the shaping of their world. Drew released a version of the tune, calling it “Lessons”, on his 2012 Red House Records release Tilt-A-Whirl.

With the help of a thrown together Bluegrass band, featuring the immensely talented mandolinist Jason Dennie, “Candidate” puts everything we’ve always wanted to ask political candidates in a song, and lays it square in their laps.
